The Eastenders go into their final Humber Premier League game of the season without assistant-manager Tony Hunt, who has failed to recover from a recent Achilles problem. With Kevin Milner working, Mike Nicholson not quite ready for a return and Jon-Paul Johnson unavailable due to “personal issues”, Manager Mack will have just the two substitutes at his disposal for the visit of Malet Lambert YC.
Skipper Neil Rutter would appear the favourite for Hunt’s central defensive position, with the likelihood being that Steve Harrod will fill the vacant space in the starting eleven. However, Mack is still to decide on whether that would be as a straightforward swap in the middle of the park to repeat the 4-5-1 formation that worked so well last week, or in a 4-4-2 with Chris Frost pushed up front and Jamie Cousins switched back to right midfield, or even as possible strike partner to James Mee himself.
With the South Holderness Cup tie against Withernsea coming up on Tuesday, Mack is anxious for his side to get back to winning ways this afternoon against a team in similarly poor form to the locals.
Malet Lambert have suffered five straight league defeats since a draw at Hornsea at the start of April. The latest of these came at Withernsea on Wednesday night when they were beaten 4-3 and had two players sent off. During this miserable run of form the east Hull side also crashed to an embarrassing 0-6 defeat at the hands of Pocklington Town in the Grays Cup semi-final.
The teams have already met twice on James Reckitt Avenue this season. A JP Johnson goal completed a 1-0 win for Easington there in the ER Senior Cup while Simon Spencer's solitary header completed a similar victory for the hosts in the league.
This afternoon’s game is being kindly sponsored by Technostics Ltd, official sponsors of the Eastenders Club Web Site as well as sponsors of several first team players and matches. The Club would like to thank Peter & Harvey Dettmar and colleagues for their continued support.
With this being the final home game of the season, we would also like to thank all our match sponsors of 2007/08.
Squad: K Appleyard, D Medforth, P Morrow, D Potts, A Graham, J Cousins, N Rutter, J Mee, C Frost, A Barnett, S Harrod, D Thompson, A Metcalf
FOOTNOTE: Dan Potts would like to remind players that he is taking bookings for the bus to Presentation Evening at both today's game and Tuesday's.
Players are also reminded that their nominations (3 choices) are due in for the Players' Player Award.

Mack names his “provisional” 20-man squad for the South Holderness Cup. Included in it is Stu Campbell (currently suspended) as well as a trio of players currently recovering from injury – Kevin Milner, JP Johnson and Mike Nicholson. The last slot has been left open for either Ollie Musgrove (currently recuperating after illness) or Luke Jeffery (sidelined by injury). Mack has also named himself despite currently struggling to overcome a troublesome knee niggle.
The full list reads: K Appleyard, D Medforth, P Morrow, D Potts, T Hunt, A Graham, J Cousins, N Rutter, J Mee, C Frost, A Barnett, S Harrod, D Thompson, A Metcalf, K Milner, JP Johnson, M Nicholson, S Campbell, D Mackay-Dundas, AN Other.

The Eastenders ‘B’ squad’s South Holderness Cup tie against Hedon Rangers Reserves will now take place at Low Farm on Saturday, 17 May (kick-off 11.00am).
Wed 07.05.08
Saturday’s scheduled visitors to Low Farm, Malet Lambert, are reduced to nine men and beaten 4-3 at bottom club Withernsea this evening.
Tue 06.05.08
Two second round ties are decided in the South Holderness Cup. At Hull Road, Withernsea Reserves book their place in the semi-final courtesy of a 4-2 win on penalties over Roos. The sides had been locked at 4-4 after extra time. Meanwhile, at the Destiny Fitness Ground, Hedon Rangers overcome Patrington Stanley United 4-2.

Confirmation that the Central Midlands League’s plans for Regionalisation in 2008/09 have been aborted comes in a statement by League Sec. Frank Harwood on the CMFL’s Football Mitoo web site. In it he says, “After careful consideration, the Management Committee have decided that due to time constraints and other factors, the CMFL will retain their present set up next season with Supreme and Premier Divisions and two reserves divisions, Reserves Supreme Division and Reserves Premier Division.”
Following this statement the Club contacted Frank to clarify the situation. He did so, saying that outside factors had combined to delay the CMFL's plans thus preventing them from being implemented in 2008/9. Therefore, subject to official confirmation at the next monthly Management Committee Meeting, it is almost certain that the Club will retain their membership status of both the Humber Premier League and the East Riding County Football League for season 2008/09.
However, the necessary ground improvements required to bring Low Farm up to Step 7 level ahead of any proposed criteria requirement changes introduced by the HPL or similar competitions for 2009/10 will continue to be implemented.
Sat 03.05.08
Despite taking the lead through a magnificent solo strike from Chris Frost, the Eastenders slump to a fifth successive defeat in today’s HPL Premier Division game at Westella & Willerby. The hosts complete a 2-1 win courtesy of Andy Coverdale’s 51st minute penalty, following Kevin Appleyard’s trip on Lee Jackson, and Matt Fyvie’s strike eleven minutes later. For full report see Message Board.
Elsewhere in the HPL, Sculcoates Amateurs are presented with the Premier Division trophy prior to their 2-0 win at Malet Lambert. Hutton Cranswick confirm a fifth-placed finish with a 3-2 win over North Ferriby Reserves, while LSS Lucarlys are somewhat surprisingly thumped 5-1 at home by Hornsea Town.
Thu 01.05.08
Manager Mack has included Andy Graham and Steve Harrod in a provisional 15-man squad for Saturday’s final away game in the HPL, against Westella & Willerby at Brough.
Graham looks set to start alongside Tony Hunt at the back with Danny Medforth reverting to right back, although that switch depends on the latter overcoming a groin problem that has troubled him in the days leading up to the game. Dan Potts looks set to move back into midfield. The rest of the starting eleven looks likely to remain unchanged, with Harrod joining Dave Mack, Darren Thompson and Adam Metcalf on the bench.
After four successive defeats and no win in eight, Mack is still trying to remain positive and again looks to the progress of the current youngsters as his main source of satisfaction. He says, “If I’m being totally honest, the first half last Saturday was probably our most disappointing display since the youngsters came in but, even on the back of this, we managed to turn things round slightly after the break and could so easily have come away with something.”
With just two games to play the Eastenders are already resigned to their lowest league finish for five years. Currently placed 11th, two wins could theoretically earn them a top seven finish but this also depends on results elsewhere going in their favour. Still, none of the First team management is getting unduly concerned. The way the current crop of youngsters has adapted to HPL football and the prospective return of several of the long-term injured over the summer has convinced Mack and assistant Tony Hunt that there are plenty of reasons for optimism. In the meantime, wins against Westella and Malet would help put everybody in the right frame of mind for the Club’s defence of the South Holderness Cup, which begins at Withernsea on Tuesday 13 May.
Westella & Willerby are in a similar situation to Easington – and not only on account of the current uncertainty surrounding their league status next season! Having reached the semi-finals of the East Riding Senior Cup only to lose out to Hall Road Rangers, manager Dave Anderson has used the last half-dozen or so league games to have a look at several members of his County League squad ahead of next season.
This show of faith was repaid with a four-match unbeaten run that only came to a halt via a 1-2 defeat at Barton Town OB Reserves last week.
A win for Easington would lift them over their opponents into the top ten; victory for ‘Ella would help avenge September’s 3-2 defeat at Low Farm.
Squad: K Appleyard, D Medforth, P Morrow, D Potts, T Hunt, A Graham, J Cousins, N Rutter, J Mee, C Frost, A Barnett, D Thompson, S Harrod, D Mackay-Dundas, A Metcalf
Thu 01.05.08
Due to prior commitments on the part of their opponents, the game between the Eastenders Reserves and Bridlington Lion FC in the ER County League Premier Division, which was scheduled for Saturday 10th May, will not now take place (it was already doubtful due to the Eastenders First Team being in HPL action on Low Farm's main pitch that afternoon). An attempt was therefore made to bring the game forward to this Saturday (3 May) but unfortunately lack of players has rendered this unfeasible.
Wed 30.04.08
The Eastenders’ South Holderness Cup second round tie at Withernsea is fixed for next Tuesday (13 May) at Hull Road, with a 6.30pm kick-off.
In tonight’s tie, Hedon Rangers cruise past Hedon Rovers 8-2 at Destiny Fitness with Craig Palmer grabbing five goals for the HPL side.
Tue 29.04.08
The Eastenders Reserves’ final league game, at home to Bridlington Lion, is provisionally brought forward to this Saturday (3 May). This is due to the original date (10 May) coinciding with a first team fixture at Low Farm. The Club is awaiting confirmation of the switch from their opponents and the County League.
Sat 26.04.08
A serious looking knee ligament injury to James Robinson compounds the Eastenders’ disappointment as they go down to a fourth successive defeat. Liam Johnson scores either side of a Joe Aldous goal as North Ferriby Utd Reserves record a 3-2 win. The Eastenders replies come from Anthony Barnett and Manager Mack himself – marking his 250th appearance with a fine strike late on. For full report see Message Board.
Elsewhere Smith & Nephew confirm second place with a 2-0 win at Hornsea Town, Barton Town increase their survival hopes with a 2-1 win over Westella & Willerby and LSS Lucarlys win at Malet Lambert. The result leaves Easington eleventh in the table.
Fri 25.04.08
Easington United play their penultimate home league game tomorrow when North Ferriby United Reserves visit Low Farm.
There are set to be two personnel changes to the squad that lost to Beverley with both Andy Graham and Adam Metcalf out due to work commitments. Darren Thompson and Luke Smith have been called up as replacements.
Manager Mack therefore looks set to make several positional switches in his starting eleven. Danny Medforth is likely to reform the central defensive partnership with Tony Hunt last on show at Reckitts, although that will also depend on the assistant-boss recovering from the slight Achilles problem that forced him to miss training on Wednesday. Dan Potts would appear to be the favourite for the right back slot he plays in on a Sunday, with youngster James Robinson in line for his full debut in midfield and Jamie Cousins restored to the right side of midfield.
Despite the result, Mack took great encouragement from last week’s display against Beverley and is determined to use the remaining games to get a good look at those players expected to figure next season. Certainly the enforced use of a large number of youngsters in recent weeks has helped the manager to assess their respective merits and on the whole he has been pleasantly surprised. “They’ve all got a lot of learning to do at this level but overall I’ve been pleased with the attitude they’ve shown and the progress they’re making.”
Cosi Basile’s Ferriby
side saw their Grays Cup hopes disappear last weekend with a 0-2 semi-final
defeat by Smith & Nephew. However, they bounced back well in midweek to beat
Malet Lambert 2-1, a result that lifted them above the Eastenders into tenth
place. They arrive at Low Farm with something of a goalkeeper “crisis”, with
Antoni Pecora having been called up to accompany Steve Wilson on the first
team’s “must win” clash at Hednesford in the UniBond League. With Joe Windeatt
carrying an injury, the visitors have been granted permission to sign youngster
Rob Moy on before kick-off tomorrow.
The match sponsorship tomorrow is provided by GRD Engineering, the final part of
an excellent package put together by Paul Thompson and co. this year, for which
the Club is particularly grateful.

Wed 23.04.08
Withernsea will provide the Eastenders’ A-squad’s opponents in the second round of the South Holderness Cup, following their 7-2 win at Hedon Rangers Juniors tonight. Owen Mountain nets a hat-trick, with the other goals coming from Phil Wicks, Mark Wilson and a Phil Good penalty.
Reckitts draw 1-1 with Barton Town OB Reserves in tonight’s only HPL game
Tue 22.04.08
Confusion still surrounds the Eastenders’ intentions for next season following today’s meeting at FA Headquarters in Soho Square between representatives of the Northern Counties East League, Central Midlands League and Leicestershire Senior League to discuss Step 6/7 football in the Midlands, Yorkshire and Humberside next season. One of the topics discussed is the proposed North/South reorganisation of the Central Midlands League but according to an official Press Release on the NCEL site, “no agreement could be reached. A decision will be made by the FA Leagues Committee on the 14th of May.”
Tue 22.04.08
First half goals from Pasha Brown and Daniel Campbell (via the penalty spot) help the Stiffs retain the Melvin Douglas Memorial Trophy at Drapers Lane tonight. Graham Thompson reduces arrears for hosts Hedon United before the break but in truth this is a comfortable win for Mike Wilson’s side. For full report see Message Board.
In the Humber Premier League tonight Sculcoates Amateurs retain the Premier Division title thanks to a 1-0 win at Hedon Rangers. Other results see North Ferriby edge out Malet Lambert (2-1) and Hornsea Town share the points with Westella & Willerby (1-1).
Mon 21.04.08
Darren Thompson and Luke Smith are both set to return from injury for the Reserves tomorrow night in the annual Melvin Douglas Memorial match against Hedon United at Drapers Lane.
Both players are named in a 14-man squad with Thompson set to partner James Mee up front and Smith looking likely to gain his chance off the bench.
Neither striker has figured since the HE Dean Cup defeat by Withernsea at the start of the month, Thompson having been plagued by a hamstring problem while Smith has struggled to overcome a troublesome ankle injury.
Elsewhere, Darren Dawson remains sidelined by injury, Craig Foster is absent due to work commitments and Brett Fisk is on holiday. Therefore Danny Campbell partners Mike Hooley in the middle of the back four, with Pasha Brown dropping in to right back and Adam Metcalf reverting to left back after a solid display on the right side of midfield for the senior squad at the weekend. Anthony Barnett also gains another start after making his full HPL debut against Beverley, while James Robinson and Jamie Cousins both start after coming off the bench in Saturday’s defeat.
The absence of keepers at the Club has prompted Kevin Appleyard’s inclusion in the squad while Andy Milbank and Dave Clubley earn promotion from the Casuals ranks.
Although having struggled for much of the campaign, Hedon United are looking forward with renewed hope for 2008/09. The promise of new recruits for next season and some off-the-field developments have given manager Dave Gatti a renewed spring in his step after uncertain times in the past couple of years. He will also be keen for his side to wrestle back the trophy lost at Low Farm last season.
Squad: K Appleyard, P Brown, A Metcalf, J Robinson, M Hooley, D Campbell, M Findley, J Cousins, D Thompson, J Mee, A Barnett, L Smith, A Milbank, D Clubley
Sat 19.04.08
Two second half goals consign Easington to a third consecutive defeat this afternoon, despite another encouraging display by Mack’s young side. A 68th minute goal from Craig Lamplough breaks the deadlock with Danny Cattle adding a second just five minutes from time. For full report see Message Board.
Elsewhere in the HPL, Sculcoates go clear at the top thanks to a 4-1 win at Hessle Rangers, while Reckitts tighten their grip on third place thanks to a 2-0 win at in-form Hedon Rangers.
In the South Holderness Cup first round, goals from Andy Milbank and Dave Clubley secure passage at the expense of Paull Wanderers; the Casuals winning 2-0 and setting up a second round meeting with Hedon Rangers Reserves.
Fri 18.04.08
Thanks to a drying easterly wind, tomorrow’s matches at Low Farm should go ahead as planned. If so, Easington are set to begin their four-match end-of-season run-in in the Humber Premier League when high-flying Beverley Town are the visitors to Low Farm.
And once again, injuries and absences mean that Manager Mack is set to field a very inexperienced side, allowing several players to build on the performance they put in against Reckitts.
In all, seven teenagers are named in the squad, of which four are likely to start, along with 20-year-old Adam Metcalf in another youthful Easington line-up.
Andy Graham returns from suspension to add a bit of experience although this is offset by the loss of Stuart Campbell who begins a 35-day ban of his own. Similarly Jamie Cousins’ return to the squad is offset by the unavailability of Steve Harrod.
The teenagers in a 15-man squad are Chris Frost, James Mee, James Robinson, Paul Morrow, Anthony Barnett, Jamie Cousins and Luke Smith, although the latter’s inclusion depends on his recovery from a recent ankle injury.
While the experience of football at this level is proving invaluable to some of those named above, Mack knows it’s a far from ideal scenario “having to bang so many of the kids in together”. But again his hands have been tied by non-availability of more experienced personnel. Among those players who the boss thought might have had a chance of figuring tomorrow, new signing Craig Lenham remains absent due to work commitments, while both JP Johnson and Luke Jeffery remain sidelined with injury and Ollie Musgrove is still under doctor’s orders to rest.
Graham’s return looks likely to see Danny Medforth switch to right back with Paul Morrow dropping at left back for the suspended Campbell. Barnett may well be in line for his full HPL debut on the left of midfield with Adam Metcalf and Jamie Cousins vying for selection on the right. Chris Frost is restored to his favoured striking role alongside fellow youngster Mee.
Without a win in six matches, the Eastenders are in desperate need of a lift – not only to revive a flagging league position but also ahead of their defence of the South Holderness Cup, which is due to begin in the coming weeks. Recent results have seen Easington drop to tenth place in the HPL, their lowest standing for four years. A repeat of recent league score lines against Beverley at the Farm would therefore provide a real tonic – the Beavers have not won in six previous HPL visits to Low Farm, picking up just two solitary points in the process.
However, the visitors
arrive on the back of a thumping 6-1 midweek win over Hessle Rangers, a result
that strengthened their bid for a top three finish. They have already tasted
victory at Low Farm this season, courtesy of the 2-1 win in the ERCFA Senior
Cup.
Tomorrow’s match is being kindly sponsored by Middlegate (Europe) Ltd.
Squad: K Appleyard, D

The Eastenders Casuals make their first entry into the South Holderness Cup
tomorrow when they entertain ER Amateur League side Paull Wanderers in the first
round on “The Pitch Across The Ditch”.
Chairman Clubley has to
delay naming his final 14-man squad due to the absence of several regulars.
Ricky Biglin and Brett Fisk are both on holiday while Will Ineson is working.
The winners of tomorrow’s tie face Hedon Rangers Reserves at home in round two.
Squad: To be confirmed
Thu 17.04.08
Regular rainfall has put this weekend’s fixtures at Low Farm in doubt.
Wed 16.04.08
Beverley Town maintain their challenge for a top three finish in the HPL thanks to a 6-1 thumping of Hessle Rangers tonight.
Tue 15.04.08
Reckitts beat Hornsea Town 2-0 in tonight’s HPL Premier Division game.
Sat 12.04.08
The South Holderness Cup first round tie between Easington United ‘B’ and Paull Wanderers is set for next Saturday (19th) on the “Pitch Across The Ditch” at Low Farm (kick-off 2.00pm).
Fri 11.04.08
The draw for this season’s South Holderness Cup presents the Eastenders ‘A’ squad with a bye through round one and a likely meeting with Withernsea in the quarter finals. The Seasiders meet County League Division 5 side Hedon Rangers Juniors in the first round with a home tie against Easington awaiting the winners.
Also in the bottom half of the draw are Hedon Rangers and Patrington Stanley United, making it the far more difficult looking split. In the top half, Easington’s ‘B’ squad entertain Paull Wanderers with a home tie against Hedon Rangers Reserves in line for the winners.
Eleven teams have entered this season’s competition, including newcomers Hedon Rovers and Hedon Rangers Juniors. Unfortunately, previous stalwarts Hedon United are unable to commit to the Cup this year as are Aldbrough United, AFC Preston and newcomers South Holderness FC.
Wed 09.04.08
As anticipated an inexperienced Easington side find the going tough against five-time champions Reckitts at the Humberside Police Ground tonight. However, it isn’t until the final fourteen minutes of the game that the hosts confirm their win; goals from Baz Waller (76 & 88mins) and Adam Crane (81mins) complementing Gareth Bairstow’s first half strike. For full report see Message Board.
Tue 08.04.08
Look at the following Easington squad: Appleyard, Jeffery, Milner, Neilson, Graham, Batch, Cousins, Johnson, Nicholson, Thompson and Musgrove; (Subs): Smith, Lenham, Smalley, McLaughlin and Foster. I think you’ll agree that it is a decent looking line-up good enough to be capable of taking points off most teams in the Humber Premier League (and it doesn't include Senior!). The only problem is that, aside from goalkeeper Appleyard, none of the above is available for this evening’s visit to Reckitts! No wonder then that manager Mack has been pulling out what little hair he has left as he tries to formulate a team to take on the five-time HPL champions.
Jimmy Neilson, Craig Smalley and JP Johnson are the latest additions to the absent list. All three picked up injuries at LSS Lucarlys, with Neilson and Smalley now set to sit out the remainder of the season. The other absentee from Saturday’s 15-man squad is Jamie Cousins due to his participation in a schools cup final this evening.
Of the remaining ten named above five are sidelined by injury, Andy Graham is suspended, striker Darren Thompson is unavailable, new signing Craig Lenham and veteran defender Craig Foster are both working, Tom McLaughlin is also on schools action while Ollie Musgrove is under doctor’s orders to rest following recent illness.
Still, as the boss always says, such situations open up possibilities for others and after the likes of James Mee and James Robinson enjoyed a first taste of HPL football at the weekend, a couple more of the Club’s promising youngsters look like getting the chance tonight.
Adam Metcalf has been recalled to the First Team squad for the first time since a subs’ appearance in the 1-0 win at Beverley Town in January 2007, while Anthony Barnett is in line for his HPL debut. However, the major plus point in tonight’s squad is the return of Steve Harrod for the first time since joining NCEL side Bottesford Town last month.
Although their title chances have faded in recent weeks, following a goalless draw at Sculcoates and Saturday’s reverse against Smith & Nephew, Reckitts remain formidable opponents and the Eastenders will be hard-pressed to continue their fine recent record against Dave Start’s side at both their Inglemire Lane homes.
Its seven games since Reckitts last beat Easington on either of their own patches, with that coming on 19 April 2003 when Ryan Cairns’ solitary strike proved enough to clinch the title for a third time. Since then, the Eastenders completed four straight victories, three of which came in the 2003/04 season, with the last two league meetings at The Police Ground resulting in successive 2-2 draws. Mack would almost certainly settle for a hat-trick of these tonight.
Squad: K Appleyard, A Metcalf, S Campbell, D Potts, T Hunt, D Medforth, C Frost, N Rutter, S Harrod, J Mee, P Morrow, J Robinson, D Mackay-Dundas, A Barnett
Tonight’s HPL game between North Ferriby and Hessle Rangers falls victim to a frozen pitch. In the other fixture, Hedon Rangers and Westella play out a 2-2 draw at Destiny Fitness.
Sat 05.04.08
Two goals inside the final five minutes consign the Eastenders to defeat at LSS Lucarlys. After a goalless first half, Henry Lawless gives the hosts the lead on 52mins only for Danny Medforth to tie things up from the penalty spot almost immediately. But goals from Phil Jones (85) and Simmy Cooke (90) ensure that Mack’s depleted side again return across the Humber Bridge empty-handed. For full report see Message Board.
Results elsewhere mean that Easington drop to ninth in the Humber Premier League table. Not only does the result in Humberston allow LSS to leapfrog them but Hedon Rangers’ 6-0 win at Withernsea also takes them above Mack’s side. The top two both win, leaders Smith & Nephew inflicting an emphatic 6-3 defeat on Reckitts, while Sculcoates’ 2-1 win over fourth-placed Beverley maintains their position as favourites. Pocklington and Hutton Cranswick take advantage of the above defeats to both move back into the top four with victories over North Ferriby and Barton respectively. The final game sees Westella run out 3-0 winners at Hessle Rangers.
In the County League, the Casuals complete their Division 4 campaign with a 2-0 win at Withernsea 3rds. Goals from Kev Newsam in the first minute and Ricky Biglin in the last prove enough to lift Clubley’s team out of the bottom two. For full report see Message Board.
Fri 04.04.08
Youngsters James Mee and
James Robinson are the eye-catching inclusions in Dave Mack’s provisional 17-man
squad for the Humber Premier League game at LSS Lucarlys tomorrow.
The teenagers have been included on the back of some impressive performances for
the Reserves in recent weeks. They are the latest in a growing line of
youngsters to gain places among the senior squad ranks and although not
promising anything straightaway, Mack is aware that both players have big
potential. He says he has “heard good things” about both players and
acknowledges that if they can go on to emulate the likes of Luke Jeffery it can
only be good for the Club’s future prospects.
Both players can play in the middle of the park with Mee having also caught the eye up front for the Stiffs in recent games.
Elsewhere, Mack again has several absentees from his core squad ahead of the Eastenders’ first ever trip to Humberston. Definitely out are Andy Graham (work), Ollie Musgrove (illness) Luke Smith and the aforementioned Luke Jeffery (both injured). New signing Craig Lenham is also unavailable.
In addition the boss has fitness doubts over Jimmy Neilson and Craig Smalley and he will be wary of using anybody who is not one hundred per cent fit, given that this is the first of two games inside five days. Should both players fail late tests, Kevin Milner and Darren Thompson could come into contention; Milner’s Scarborough are inactive tomorrow, while Thompson has scored twice in the last two reserve team games since returning to action after a two-week break.
On the plus side, Kevin Appleyard is fit again after having been laid low by a virus for much of the week, while Dan Potts is back from holiday. Meanwhile Paul Morrow is in line for his first start since rejoining the Club from North Ferriby.
Hosts LSS are on a fine run at the moment, having won their last two games against in-form opponents; single goal victories accounting for leaders Smith & Nephew on the 3G and North Ferriby at home last weekend.
Tommy Watson’s side also inflicted upon Easington their first home defeat of the season back in November, courtesy of a 2-0 scoreline.
Squad (from): K Appleyard, D Medforth, S Campbell, N Rutter, T Hunt, J Neilson, J Cousins, D Potts, JP Johnson, C Frost, P Morrow, C Smalley, J Mee, J Robinson, K Milner, D Mackay-Dundas
The Casuals are all set to wrap up their 2007/08 County League Division 4 campaign at bottom club Withernsea Thirds tomorrow. Chairman Clubley has included youngsters Brett Fisk and Anthony Barnett in his squad. Goalkeeper Steve Eldon is in line to make his first appearance at Hull Road since the Football Foundation-funded re-vamp of a ground he graced so many times in the past. Although son Dave is away (on “stag” duty), Clubley should be able to count on most of the season’s regulars as he goes in search of a first win in eight games.
Casuals: S Eldon, S Cousins, T Biglin, A McNaught, I McNaught, W Ineson, R Biglin, A Milbank, C Smith, B Fisk, K Newsam, A Barnett, A O’Hara, I Carrick
Tue 01.04.08
An embarrassing performance tonight at Hull Road sees the Stiffs exit the HE Dean Cup at the first round stage, courtesy of a 2-1 defeat by Withernsea. Given the perfect start when Darren Thompson seizes on a Phil Richardson error to score after just 5 minutes, the Eastenders fail to make the most of favourable first half conditions and pay the price when Withernsea level through a Steve Beedham free-kick just before the break. Stew Guy clinches the win with a stunning goal early in the second half. For full report see Message Board.
Tue 01.04.08
The Eastenders Reserves will look to bounce back from Saturday’s league disappointment when they begin their HE Dean Cup campaign at Withernsea tonight. Having seemingly missed out on the chance to enhance his “You Tube” reputation following the postponement of Saturday’s HPL fixture, Danny Medforth is given another opportunity when he again dons the goalkeeping gloves. This comes as a result of a virus that has forced Kevin Appleyard out after the Eastenders’ first choice keeper had initially been brought in to replace the absent Steve Eldon.
Otherwise manager Mike Wilson is expected to field the same starting line-up as Saturday although the bench shows three changes, with James Mee, James Robinson and Ricky Biglin included at the expense of Stu Campbell, Chris Frost and Paul Morrow (all of whom are expected to figure instead in the first team game at LSS Lucarlys on Saturday). Mee and Robinson are named having both come back from holiday at the weekend, while Biglin’s inclusion is reward for a fine season at Casuals level.
Meanwhile, two other potential inclusions, Darren Dawson and Tom McLaughlin, remain sidelined by injury.
Opponents Withernsea Reserves currently stand tenth in Division 2 having won four and drawn three of their eighteen league games to date. However, as always in local derbies, supposed league status goes out of the window and there is enough experience in the Seasiders' ranks to ensure that the tie could be uncomfortable for Wilson's side if attitude and aptitude are not up to scratch.
The HE Dean Cup has been subject to a tennis-style draw this year with every team knowing its projected route to the final. The winners of tonight's fixture will meet either Skirlaugh or Wawne Ferry at home in round two next Tuesday week (8 April).
Squad: D Medforth, B Fisk, A Metcalf, P Brown, C Foster, M Hooley, M Findley, D Campbell, L Smith, D Thompson, A Barnett, J Mee, J Robinson, R Biglin

Apologies for the lack of weekend updates on the Message Board – this was due to technical difficulties.
Sat 29.03.08 (pm)
In the HPL Premier Division, Sculcoates miss out on the chance to go top when they are held/beaten by Reckitts at Chants Avenue. Hutton Cranswick improve their standing with a 2-0 win at Hessle Rangers, while Pocklington Town and Hedon Rangers share the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Westella & Willerby end their recent run of poor results with a 3-1 win at Withernsea, while LSS Lucarlys continue their improved form with a 1-0 win over North Ferriby United Reserves.
In addition to our game, those at Hornsea (v Smith & Nephew) and Malet Lambert (v Barton Town OB Reserves) also fall victim to waterlogged pitches.
Sat 29.03.08 (pm)
Despite another encouraging performance, the Eastenders Reserves are beaten 5-2 at AFC Charter in the County League Premier Division. Darren Thompson and Stuart Campbell score for the Stiffs. For full report see Message Board.
Elsewhere, Holme Rovers keep alive their slim hopes of survival thanks to a 3-1 win over fellow strugglers Skidby Millers.
Sat 29.03.08 (am)
The Eastenders’ HPL game against Beverley Town at Low Farm this afternoon is off. Despite a fine morning, which has enable much of the pitch to recover from the battering it received yesterday and last night, one quarter is still very wet with a couple of puddles that are proving hard to shift. With the match officials requiring a decision either way by eleven o’clock, it is decided to postpone the game.
Meanwhile a date of Saturday, 3 May has been fixed for last week’s postponed trip to Westella & Willerby.
Sat 29.03.08 (am)
Rearranged dates are received for the following games: HPL – Westella & Willerby (away) now Saturday, 3 May; CFL Premier – Bridlington Lion (home) now Saturday, 19 April; & CFL Division 4 – Withernsea Thirds (away) now Saturday, 5 April.
The Reserves’ game rearranged date against Brid Lion may yet face further rescheduling – the first team are already at home on that day.
Fri 28.03.08
Reserve team boss Mike Wilson is delaying confirmation of his squad to visit reigning County League champions AFC Charter until as late as possible, due to the uncertainty of the Low Farm pitch being fit for tomorrow’s HPL game. The boss has thus far confirmed just ten players and has put several members of the Casuals squad on standby to fill the vacant places should the First Team fixture go ahead. However, with that looking increasingly unlikely following more rain on a saturated surface, Bo is keen to keep his options open; especially as several of those being thrown into the senior squad fray tomorrow may well benefit more from a run out with the Stiffs first.
Definitely out of the equation tomorrow are the holidaying James Mee and James Robinson and the injured Darren Dawson. Coming back into the squad after two weeks’ absence is Darren Thompson.
Opponents Charter (who won the title as “Old George” last season) are well in the hunt for a second successive Premier Division title following their recent win at previous pacesetters North Ferriby Athletic. Earlier in the season they won 3-0 at Low Farm.
Squad: TBC
Fri 28.03.08
Should the Low Farm pitch beat the weather, Eastenders boss Dave Mack is set to field a youthful side against Beverley Town tomorrow. Teenagers Chris Frost, Luke Smith, Ollie Musgrove and Paul Morrow are all in line for starts as Mack not only looks to cover a crippling absentee list but also keeps one eye on the future.
He says, “It’s true we’ve got several players out tomorrow but to be honest I’ve had it in my mind to start having a look at some of the younger lads over the remaining games. Many of them will hopefully be playing HPL football on a regular basis next season and it’s important we’re not throwing them in at the deep end.”
Frost and Smith look likely to partner each other up front tomorrow, although the latter has been struggling with illness during the week. Morrow and Musgrove could form the left side combination should JP Johnson be unavailable, with Stu Campbell set to switch to central midfield and Craig Smalley back at right back after five weeks’ sidelined with injury.
With Danny Medforth in goal for the suspended Kev Appleyard it’s something of an “experimental” Eastenders line-up for a game that must be won if hopes of improving on their current seventh place are to be realised.
Alongside the suspended Appleyard, Mack is without the absent trio of Potts, Jeffery and Neilson and injured duo Batch and Nicholson. Meanwhile new signing Craig Lenham is unavailable this weekend. As such Mack will delay naming his subs until tomorrow morning.
Beverley arrive at the scene of their recent ER Senior Cup quarter-final win in good heart following back-to-back wins that have seen them climb to third in the table. In the season’s earlier meeting at Norwood, the teams played out a 1-1 draw.
Squad (probable): D Medforth, C Smalley, P Morrow, N Rutter, T Hunt, A Graham, J Cousins, S Campbell, C Frost, L Smith, O Musgrove, JP Johnson, D Mackay-Dundas, AN Other
Fri 28.03.08
Tomorrow’s game against Beverley Town is at risk following further rain. A large area on the far side of the pitch is starting to hold water. A pitch inspection is planned for ten o’clock tomorrow morning.
Thu 27.03.08
The Eastenders complete the signing of 21-year-old midfield player Craig Lenham from Hull SFL Division 1 Wyke side St Peters FC.
Wed 26.03.08
Eastenders General Manager Richard Lusmore admits to being “embarrassed” by the oversight that could have landed the Club in trouble had Saturday’s game at Westella & Willerby gone ahead. Brett Fisk was named in the Eastenders squad and was set for a possible HPL debut, after several promising displays for the Reserves since returning to Low Farm from Withernsea. Unfortunately, Fisk has only completed a transfer at County League level and is still registered on HPL forms with his former club. The Eastenders will now try to complete the transfer before the 31 March deadline.
Tue 25.03.08
Due to the ongoing negotiations between several bodies concerning the proposed reorganisation of the Central Midlands League for next season, the monthly meeting of the Eastenders’ Club Committee tonight agree to confirm their membership of the Humber Premier League for 2008/09. However, the members agree to continue an active pursuit of CML membership. Work on bringing Low Farm up to the required standard is to begin this weekend.
Mon 24.03.08
All fifteen riders safely complete the “Hugging The Coast Bike Ride” today despite near-treacherous snowy conditions at the start and far from favourable weather accompanying them. For full account of the ride see “Press Releases” section of the Message Board.
Sat 22.03.08
All three games involving Easington teams this afternoon are off due to waterlogged pitches.
Fri 21.03.08
Danny Medforth, Luke Jeffery (both holiday) and Jimmy Neilson (injury) are three extra absentees from Mack’s squad to face Westella & Willerby at the Blackburn Sports Ground in Brough tomorrow. They join a list that includes injured trio John Batch, Craig Smalley and Mike Nicholson as well as the holidaying Ollie Musgrove.
With Scarborough having no fixture, Kevin Milner is available and added to the squad as are Luke Smith and Brett Fisk, on the back of strong performances for the Reserves in recent weeks.
With the County League squads set to complete their fixtures over the next two weeks, Mack is also expected to complete the registration of a couple of other youngsters who’ve shone during the Reserves’ recent run of form.
Opponents Westella & Willerby are enduring a similar run of disappointing league form to that experienced by the Eastenders at the moment. Since beating leaders Smith & Nephew, Dave Anderson’s side have lost three out of four league games and exited the Grays Cup. However, they are through to the semi-finals of the East Riding Senior Cup, wherein they meet Hall Road Rangers on Tuesday. Away from the action, the hosts have also been provisionally accepted into the Central Midlands League for season 2008/09.
Reserve team manager Mike Wilson looks set to delay naming his squad until tomorrow, ahead of the ER County League Premier Division game against Bridlington Lion at Low Farm. Definitely absent from the squad that last week won at Skidby are Steve Eldon, James Robinson (holiday), Darren Dawson (injury) and Matty Findley (wedding) in addition to the two lads called up to first team duty.
Mickey Bo will be keen for his team to continue their current run of form and has the extra incentive this weekend of atoning for the locals’ worst performance of the season, which came in the 7-0 drubbing in Bridlington before Christmas.
Ahead of their final game of the season, at Withernsea Thirds, Chairman Clubley provisionally has a full squad available for selection – until Reserve team requirements are taken into account of course. He will therefore also delay finalising his squad until tomorrow morning.
Squad (v Westella & Willerby): K Appleyard, T Hunt, S Campbell, N Rutter, A Graham, J Cousins, D Potts, C Frost, JP Johnson, P Morrow, K Milner, D Mackay-Dundas, L Smith, B Fisk
Fri 21.03.08
The Club receive an official seven days’ notice of approach from Hedon Rangers for Jimmy Neilson.
Wed 19.03.08
At a well attended Special General Meeting in The Neptune Inn this evening, the immediate future progress of all three adult teams is discussed. The outcome is a unanimous vote in favour of the Management Committee’s proposals on “taking the Club forward”. An official statement outlining what exactly this entails will follow the monthly Committee Meeting scheduled for next Tuesday (25 March).
Tue 18.03.08
Mike Nicholson looks likely to be sidelined for up to five weeks with an “avulsion fracture” of the ankle sustained in the draw with Hutton Cranswick. The injury is described as “when a ligament pulls a piece of bone away from the remaining bone”. Even without this latest news the Eastenders’ joint-leading scorer may not have been available for the remainder of the season, following confirmation that he has signed Central Midlands League forms with Appleby Frodingham FC.
Mon 17.03.08
The Eastenders place seven days’ notice of approach with Withernsea AFC for John Dunn and with Hedon Rangers for Craig Palmer. Manager Mack makes the move in the wake of the recent loss of several players from his first team club.
Sat 15.03.08
Goals from Craig Foster and Luke Smith help the Eastenders Reserves come from behind to win 2-1 at Skidby Millers in today’s County League Premier Division relegation battle. With Holme Rovers losing at Viking Raiders it boosts the Stiffs’ survival chances considerably. It’s not such good news in Division 4, however, where the Casuals are beaten 0-4 by leaders Westella Juniors. For match reports see Message Board.
Sat 15.03.08
Despite a much-improved performance the Eastenders are held to a goalless draw by Hornsea Town this afternoon in a game that also sees Stuart Campbell sent off in injury time following an off-the-ball incident. For match report see Message Board.
Elsewhere the shock of the day comes at Hull Road where Withernsea put a real dent in Reckitts’ title ambitions thanks to a 2-1 win. Leaders Smith & Nephew win 2-1 at Hutton Cranswick, where Tom Cooper misses a late penalty for the home side. This keeps the leaders one point clear of Sculcoates Amateurs who edge past Pocklington Town by the game’s only goal. Beverley are 2-1 winners over Westella & Willerby, Hedon Rangers win 3-2 at LSS Lucarlys, Malet Lambert and Hessle draw 0-0 and Barton lose 0-3 at North Ferriby United Reserves.
Fri 14.03.08
Manager Mack is set to have some strong words to say to his players ahead of tomorrow’s game against Hornsea Town in the Humber Premier League.
Having already questioned their “attitude and desire” in the wake of last week’s defeat at Barton, he goes even further in his programme notes for tomorrow’s match: “All we really ask of the players football-wise is to turn up on time in the club uniform, warm up properly and concentrate all your efforts for a couple of hours on winning a game of football…I feel extremely proud and honoured to be first team manager at Easington United and I’m not prepared to let so many people's hard work go down the pan just because we can't apply ourselves properly for a couple of hours on a Saturday.”
In addition to trying to get the players back to speed mentally for what is always a keenly contested fixture, Mack is again coping with further absentees from his core squad. Ollie Musgrove is away, Tony Hunt and Mike Nicholson are both injured, while it appears that leading scorer Steve Harrod is set to join Bottesford Town ahead of their NCEL Division 1 against Yorkshire Amateur.
Skipper Neil Rutter therefore looks set to gain a start in midfield with the shortage of left-side options prompting the inclusion of youngster Paul Morrow in the squad for the first time since his transfer from North Ferriby United Reserves. With Hunt sidelined, Mack is also not so reluctant to push himself forward as one of the subs, given an effective little cameo when coming off the bench at Barton.
Hornsea have experienced a frustrating campaign both on and off the field, having had a productive 2006/07 season. Player departures, injuries and a string of poor results see Town arrive at Low Farm down in 13th place, albeit well clear of the bottom three.
Manager Geoff Whitehead will hope to have Dean Jennings, Tom Gelsthorpe and James Black back in contention after all three players missed last week’s creditable 1-1 draw at Hutton Cranswick.
In the County League Mike Wilson is without striker Darren Thompson for the trip to Skidby Millers where a win for Easington could just about confirm Premier Division football for next season. The manager has again included veteran keeper Steve Eldon in the squad, while Luke Smith looks set to start up front alongside James Mee. James Robinson is also included in a 13-man squad.
Skidby’s sloping pitch at Manor Garth is a notoriously hard place to get something and the Eastenders’ record there at all levels is a poor one. The Millers are two places and 2pts better off in the Premier Division table but come into the game on the back of two defeats, at North Ferriby and Brid Lion.
The Casuals entertain leaders Westella Juniors in Division 4 with Chairman Clubley bracing himself for what he envisages being a tough contest against “by far the best side we’ve played this season”. With Steve Eldon called up once more to Reserve team duty, Andy Milbank dons the gloves. Ricky Biglin and Dave Clubley are both available again and should return, along with Chris Smith who unfortunately had to referee last week’s game. Missing from last week’s squad are Lewis Jones (injured), Steve Ward (work) and James Mee (Reserves duty), while Tom McLaughlin – missing for the past two weeks – aggravated an injury while playing for the school team in midweek.
Westella are going head-to-head with Hedon Rangers Reserves for the Division 4 title and last weekend thumped bottom club Withernsea 8-1. They won the earlier meeting in Hull 4-0 and will start as strong favourites on “The Pitch Across The Ditch”.
Squad (v Hornsea): K Appleyard, L Jeffery, S Campbell, N Rutter, J Neilson, A Graham, J Cousins, D Potts, D Medforth, C Frost, JP Johnson, P Morrow, D Mackay-Dundas
Reserves (v Skidby): S Eldon, B Fisk, A Metcalf, D Dawson, C Foster, M Hooley, M Findley, P Brown, L Smith, J Mee, A Barnett, J Robinson, D Campbell
Casuals (v Westella): A Milbank, S Cousins, J Clarke, T Biglin, A McNaught, I McNaught, K Newsam, W Ineson, R Biglin, D Clubley, A O’Hara, C Smith
Thu 13.03.08
Luke Jeffery and Tom McLaughlin are both named in the ERCFA Juniors squad to play the West Riding CFA on Monday 17 March.
Thu 13.03.08
Notice is hereby given of a Special General Meeting for Committee, Management & Players, to be held in The Neptune on Wednesday 19 March at 7.45pm.
Thu 13.03.08
Mike Nicholson is out of Saturday’s game against Hornsea Town at Low Farm; the Eastenders’ joint-top scorer has still not recovered from the ankle injury sustained against Hutton Cranswick.
Wed 12.03.08
The Club has secured a new training venue for the spring period. Withernsea High School Sports Hall has been acquired on Wednesday nights between 7pm and 8pm for the period 9 April to 7 May inclusive.
Tue 11.03.08
Congratulations (and I suppose some commiserations as well) go to Danny Campbell who receives a Certificate from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council in recognition of his nomination for “Unsung Hero” at the Council’s annual Sport & Play Recognition Awards for 2007/08. Sadly, Danny didn’t quite make it into the top five, each of whom will be asked to attend next week’s awards ceremony. Still, his recognition by the ERYC is justly deserved.
Mon 10.03.08
The Club receives an official notice of approach from Reckitts for Mike Nicholson.
Sat 08.03.08 (pm)
The Casuals slide to a sixth straight defeat today when Market Weighton Reserves leave Low Farm with the points thanks to a 3-0 win. Further disappointment for the locals comes with a serious-looking injury to youngster Lewis Jones in the final few minutes.
Sat 08.03.08 (pm)
Despite taking the lead through Jimmy Neilson’s 23rd minute header, the Eastenders go down to a second successive away defeat this afternoon. Stuart Lacy scores twice in as many minutes (28 and 29mins) for Barton Town OB Reserves to clinch a 2-1 result at the impressive Euronics Ground, Marsh Lane. There is also a worrying head injury to Chris Frost although, thankfully, he’s later given the all-clear at hospital. For full match report see Message Board.
With the Grays Cup taking up much of the fixture list, Sculcoates Amateurs take the opportunity to close the gap at the top. A 3-1 win over LSS Lucarlys leaves Scully just a point behind leaders Smith & Nephew with three games in hand. Elsewhere Beverley Town beat Withernsea 5-0 at Norwood and Hutton Cranswick draw 1-1 with Hornsea Town at Rotsea Lane.
Sat 08.03.08 (am)
The Club receives an official notice of approach from Appleby Frodingham for Mike Nicholson. At the same time the player is ruled out of action at the eleventh hour for the second week running, his ankle injury having again failed to respond to intensive treatment.
Fri 07.03.08
Easington boss Dave Mack
is forced to re-jig things again for the tricky looking trip to Barton, with two
key players again missing. Both skipper Neil Rutter and joint-top scorer Steve
Harrod are absent - just a fortnight on from a similar situation against Hutton
Cranswick.
Rutter is sidelined following a bout of tonsillitis while Harrod - the subject
of an official notice of approach from Bottesford Town this week - is out due to
work commitments.
On the plus side Luke Jeffery has declared himself fit, the hamstring injury the
youngster sustained at Malet Lambert not being as serious as first thought. In
addition, Mike Nicholson appears to have overcome the ankle injury that
sidelined him last weekend.
After a couple of subs' appearances, Andy Graham looks set to gain his first
start since the win at Hedon Rangers back in January. Meanwhile it seems likely
that Dan Potts may also return to the centre of the park, a move which could
also see Mack revert to a front two partnership of Jimmy Neilson and Danny
Medforth that operated to reasonable effect prior to Christmas.
Alternatively the boss
has the option of handing a start to young striker Chris Frost who worked hard
for little reward during the hour he was on the field at Malet.
With the manager himself feeling "one hundred per cent better" than a week ago,
he may resist the temptation to add anybody else to the bench from the ranks of
the reserves (without a game). Should he decide to dip into their ranks, striker
Darren Thompson would appear the obvious choice.
Opponents Barton will be a bit of an unknown quantity given the apparent wholesale changes to their ranks since their visit to Low Farm on the opening day of the season. Although still placed precariously at the wrong end of the table and suffering a fairly emphatic 5-2 defeat at Hedon last weekend, most reports since Christmas have suggested that they will prove a very tough nut to crack at their impressive new-look home.
Chairman Clubley looks to his side to arrest a run of five straight defeats when Market Weighton visit the "Pitch Across The Ditch".
He does so with
hopefully a few familiar names back in contention after the disruption of last
weekend. Although Tom McLaughlin is still sidelined with injury, player-asst-mgr
Iain McNaught, goalkeeper Steve Eldon, skipper Trevor Biglin, Ricky Biglin and
Aiden O'Hara should all be available although an improved showing on the whole
against Eastrington last week may make it hard for some of them to regain their
places.
Of the 12 on duty in that 1-3 defeat, only Steve Ward looks like being
definitely unavailable (due to work) leaving Clubley with some difficult
decision-making to do - especially given the fact that James Robinson and James
Mee are also in contention for places!
Market Weighton are just on the fringes of the current promotion pack, 3pts
behind fourth-placed Brandesburton 3rds but 10pts off third-placed Shiptonthorpe
who themselves lie just a point behind the top two.
Squad (probable): K Appleyard, L Jeffery, S Campbell, D Potts, T Hunt, A Graham, J Cousins, JP Johnson, D Medforth, J Neilson, O Musgrove, C Frost, M Nicholson, D Mackay-Dundas
Casuals (from): S Eldon, S Cousins, J Clarke, C Smith, A McNaught, K Newsam, L Jones, D Clubley, A Milbank, I Carrick, W Ineson, I McNaught, T Biglin, R Biglin, A O'Hara
Thu 06.03.08
The Club receives an official notice of approach from Bottesford Town for Steve Harrod.
Wed 05.03.08
Neil Rutter is extremely doubtful for Saturday’s trip to Barton Town OB Reserves. The Eastenders skipper is suffering with tonsillitis. Manager Mack is also awaiting fitness news from Luke Jeffery (hamstring) and Mike Nicholson (ankle).
Sat 01.03.08 (pm)
Substitute Luke Smith comes off the bench to clinch a dramatic 4-3 win for the Eastenders Reserves at home to Viking Raiders in the County League Premier Division. Earlier, goals from Darren Dawson, Matty Findley and Adam Metcalf give Mickey Bo’s side the lead at 2-0 and 3-1 before the Goole side fight back. With uncertainty surrounding the outcome of Holme Rovers’ scheduled game against Bridlington Lion, the result leaves the Stiffs 7pts clear of bottom spot but with Holme having three games in hand.
In Division 4 the Casuals slip to a fifth straight defeat. Despite a ‘Nibs’ Carrick strike giving them the lead, they eventually lose 1-3 to fellow strugglers Eastrington Village. For full match reports see Message Board.
Sat 01.03.08 (pm)
An instantly forgettable game sees Easington go down by the only goal at Malet Lambert this afternoon. Simon Spencer scores the winner fifteen minutes from time to settle a match dominated by strong winds. For full match report see Message Board.
Elsewhere, Smith & Nephew gain an emphatic win in the meeting of the top two at Hull University. They hammer second-placed Sculcoates Amateurs 4-1 to extend their lead at the top to 4pts; Scully do, however, have four games in hand.
With third-placed Reckitts inactive, Pocklington Town take advantage to go ahead of the east Hull side thanks to a 2-1 win at Westella & Willerby. But Beverley Town miss out when they are thumped 1-4 at home by North Ferriby United Reserves.
At the other end Withernsea look doomed to bottom spot following their 22 defeat of the campaign, 1-4 at LSS Lucarlys. Barton Town Old Boys Reserves also go down, 2-5 at Hedon Rangers for whom Paul Wilkinson grabs a hat-trick and fellow ex-East Ender Craig Palmer bags a brace. But Hessle Rangers do their hopes a power of good thanks to a 3-2 win at Hornsea Town.
Sat 01.03.08 (am)
Mike Nicholson is out of this afternoon’s HPL Premier Division game at Malet Lambert having failed a morning fitness test on his injured ankle. Chris Frost is therefore called up from the Reserves and is in line to make his Eastenders debut at this level. Manager Mack opts for Frost ahead of fellow striker Darren Thompson on account of his “greater experience in the Humber Premier League this season” – the young striker having been a regular in Withernsea’s starting eleven this term.
Fri 29.02.08
Injuries and absences continue to affect all three Easington squads ahead of tomorrow’s league programme. Manager Mack is awaiting a fitness test tomorrow morning on Mike Nicholson before confirming the First Team squad to face Malet Lambert away. Should the striker pass, then it will simply be a case of Mack sorting out a starting eleven from a 14-man squad that shows two changes to that which faced Hutton Cranswick. Steve Harrod and Neil Rutter are both available but Dan Potts and Kevin Milner miss out. Potts is away while Milner returns to Scarborough Athletic having come and helped out last weekend.
With Craig Smalley and John Batch out long-term with injury and new signing Paul Morrow having picked up a knock in midweek, Mack’s resources are being stretched to the limit ahead of what looks like being a very difficult match.
The locals have already won at Malet Lambert once this season, JP Johnson’s goal earning them a 1-0 success in the ER Senior Cup back in November. However, their opponents are on a fine run of form at the moment and boast back-to-back wins against Westella and Hedon coming into tomorrow’s fixture.
Reserve team boss Mike Wilson is also struggling with injuries ahead of his team’s crucial County League Premier Division clash against Viking Raiders at Low Farm. Paul Morrow and James Robinson both picked up injuries in midweek and miss out. Chris Senior and Luke Smith could be in line for surprise recalls and it appears likely that youngster James Mee will be handed another chance to shine after a string of solid displays for the Casuals. Meanwhile, the loss of both Chris Rawlings and Craig Pickersgill to injury means a call-up for veteran keeper Steve Eldon in goal.
The visitors from Goole arrive on the back of a frustrating goalless draw at Sculcoates Reserves, a result that all-but-extinguished any lingering title hopes. Still, they beat the Stiffs 2-1 before Christmas and will travel to Easington fully expecting to at least match that result tomorrow.
The Casuals have included “Clint The Cat” Keyworth as replacement for Steve Eldon for their Division 4 meeting with Eastrington Village on “The Pitch Across The Ditch”.
Otherwise, Chairman Clubley has little idea just who will line-up as he continues to try and plug the gaps left by the absence of asst-boss Iain McNaught, Trevor & Ricky Biglin, Aiden O’Hara and Steve Ward. James Mee looks set for a Reserve team call-up while Tom McLaughlin is struggling with injury having lasted just ten minutes of last week's defeat against Brandesburton. ‘Nibs’ Carrick, Will Ineson and Chris Smith are expected to come into the reckoning.
Eastrington arrive on the back of an 8-0 hiding by Hedon Rangers last weekend and the Casuals were very impressive when winning this season’s previous meeting before Christmas. However, tomorrow’s locals’ line-up promises to be somewhat different to the one that won 6-3 that day.
Squad (v Malet Lambert): K Appleyard, L Jeffery, S Campbell, JP Johnson, T Hunt, J Neilson, J Cousins, D Medforth, S Harrod, M Nicholson, O Musgrove, A Graham, N Rutter, D Mackay-Dundas
Reserves (v Viking Raiders) from: S Eldon, B Fisk, A Metcalf, P Brown, C Foster, M Hooley, M Findley, D Dawson, C Frost, D Thompson, D Campbell, J Mee, C Senior, L Smith
Casuals (v Eastrington): C Keyworth, S Cousins, A McNaught, K Newsam, L Jones, C Smith, D Clubley, A Milbank, I Carrick, T McLaughlin, AN Other, SO Else
Wed 27.02.08
The Eastenders’ Football Mundial experience ends in disappointment when their depleted line-up is beaten 5-0 by Plexus in tonight’s Knockout Cup quarter-final.
Wed 27.02.08
Skipper Neil Rutter declares himself fit for Saturday but Mike Nicholson’s chances are rated as only 50-50, following the ankle injury sustained last weekend.
Tue 26.02.08
Dan Potts is out of the squad to face Malet Lambert in the HPL Premier Division on Saturday; the midfielder is away on business.
Sat 23.02.08
There is another “double dose” of defeat for our County League squads. Despite a much-improved performance, the Eastenders Reserves go down 2-4 at Beverley Town Reserves. Chris Frost and Adam Metcalf score the locals’ goals. With Holme Rovers picking up a point against Howden Amateurs it makes the situation at the bottom too tight to call – Rovers are just 4pts adrift of Easington with two games in hand.
In Division 4 the Casuals suffer a third successive 0-4 defeat, the latest coming against Brandesburton 3rds. For full match reports see Message Board.
Sat 23.02.08
Despite the first half dismissal of goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard, the Eastenders come from two down to earn a point at home to Hutton Cranswick this afternoon. Jon-Paul Johnson scores a superb first half goal with visiting keeper Matthew Cox unwittingly ‘scoring’ the second when carrying the ball over the line from Ollie Musgrove’s chip. For full match report see Message Board.
Unfortunately for both teams, most of their main rivals in the leading pack win. Leaders Smith & Nephew win 2-1 at Barton Town OB Reserves and second-placed Scully also enjoy success on the road courtesy of a comfortable 6-0 victory at Withernsea. In the meeting of third and fourth, Reckitts edge out Pocklington Town by the game’s only goal. Beverley move back above Hutton Cranswick following their 4-3 win over LSS Lucarlys.
At the other end, Hessle miss the chance to capitalise on defeats for Barton and Withernsea – they are beaten 0-3 at home by North Ferriby. The day’s other game sees Malet Lambert overcome Hedon Rangers 2-1.
Fri 21.02.08
The Eastenders will look to halt Hutton Cranswick’s recent impressive record at Low Farm when seventh meets fifth in Saturday’s HPL Premier Division clash.
The visitors have won two and drawn one of their last three encounters in Easington, including last season’s dramatic affair which saw them triumph 4-3 despite being reduced to nine men at one stage of the game. Ironically, you have to go back to their championship-winning 2003/04 campaign for the last time ‘Cranny’ were beaten by their opponents either home or away – that came when Andy Graham and Jimmy Neilson scored in a 2-0 success.
Cranswick arrive on the back of a fine 2-0 win over Beverley Town. Mike Tate and Mark Frampton scored while, at the other end, the return of goalkeeper Matthew Cox helped keep his side’s first clean sheet since 1 December.
As for the home camp, the return of the “feel good factor” thanks to the quality of performance at Hessle has been tempered slightly since by a double blow selection-wise. Manager Mack has been forced to reshuffle following the loss of joint leading scorer Steve Harrod (work) and skipper Neil Rutter (injury).
It therefore appears likely that Danny Medforth and Ollie Musgrove will come into the starting line-up, with JP Johnson moving inside to accommodate Musgrove and Medforth being asked to fulfil the second-striker role he has done so manfully in the past.
On the bench, Mack is joined by the returning Andy Graham and there is a surprise boost via the availability of Kevin Milner due to Scarborough being without a game.
Mack is quite pragmatic about the latter’s inclusion: “To be honest it suits both parties. Kev’s appearances since joining Scarborough have been restricted to less than ninety minutes in three matches, while we are struggling for numbers this weekend. Hopefully, Kev will be able to get some much-needed game time with us while his availability means I don’t have to go digging into an already stretched reserve-string.”
Things might have been different had the HPL transfers of Chris Frost and Paul Morrow gone through (from Withernsea and North Ferriby respectively) but these are unlikely to be concluded by the weekend; hence both players being named in Mike Wilson’s reserve team to face Beverley Town Reserves at Norwood Park.
The early opportunity for the Stiffs to gain revenge for last week’s 4-0 defeat at Low Farm has come about due to ERCFA Cup fixture rearrangements, which mean that the Stiffs’ scheduled trip to Skidby Millers is off.
As with the senior squad, there is a surprise inclusion at Second Team level with Chris Rawlings returning to goalkeeping duties following Craig Pickersgill’s injury. ‘Rawls’ had previously announced his retirement on medical advice following a second serious shoulder injury sustained earlier this season. However, recent “second opinions” have prompted a re-think and he comes straight into the side tomorrow. Wilson has also made three outfield changes in the wake of last Saturday’s disappointment. Youngster Brett Fisk gets the call from the Casuals following some strong displays since returning from Withernsea, while Chris Frost gains a start up front in place of Craig Foster who reverts to a central defensive role. Daniel Campbell drops to the bench while Darren Dawson is recalled from the Casuals with Andrew McNaught opting to go the other way.
With Holme Rovers facing a difficult match against Howden Amateurs, anything picked up from the trip to Bishop Burton could prove decisive in helping the Stiffs avoid bottom spot. It would also certainly help erase memories of o
